Record Mirror Boystown Disco Hi-NRG Chart 23rd June 1984

James Hamilton’s Disco Page Hot Vinyl Hi-NRG Disco Reviews 30th June 1984
EARLENE BENTLEY: ‘Caught In The Act’ (Record Shack SOHOT 23) And the beat goes on . . . another ruthlessly efficient Ian Levine/Fi Trench-prod/penned grittily wailed shuffling and jittering 128½bpm high energy charger with a steam engine backbeat and pulverising vocal (phased inst dub flip).
JAYNE EDWARDS: ‘Determination’ (RCA RCAT 412)
Producer Rick Giantos adds a ‘Let’s All Chant’ handclap rhythm to this Levine & Trench custom-penned huskily wailed 132bpm “northern soul” galloper, which remains much hotter Hi-NRG than the official A-side’s 0-125bpm revival of Yvonne Fair’s ‘It Should Have Been Me‘.
POINTER SISTERS: ‘Jump (For My Love)’ (Planet RPST 106) Jumping the gun nationally already, as with ‘Automatic’ the 12in of this high energy bounder is a substantially different 133bpm remix (inst flip).
HOT GOSSIP: ‘Break Me Into Little Pieces’ (Fanfare HGT1) Finished commercial pressings now have a somewhat beefed and speeded up 0-129bpm remix of this chap-sung Levine & Trench-prod/penned freely flowing classically tinged canterer (0-127bpm inst flip).

Billboard Hot Dance Chart 30th June 1984
This Billboard Hot Dance Chart from the last week of June 1984 is a fabulous compliment to the Hi-NRG tracks being played in by DJs British gay clubs. Laura Branigan’s ‘Self Control’, Patti Austin’s Rhythm Of The Street’ and Kim Carnes ‘Hurricane’ would all nicely fit into the Hi-NRG vibe of 1984.
