Billboard Hot Dance Chart 24th March 1984

The Billboard Dance chart would often have a very good showing of Hi-NRG, as well as Synth Pop tracks, unlike the British mainstream dance clubs, which focussed their music policy mainly on soul and black music. In this Billboard chart, there are tracks from Poiner Sisters, Hazell Dean, Pamala Stanley and Miquel Brown which remained firmly in the gay clubs in the UK, failing to get much mainstream interest or play at all. Whilst in the USA, British synth pop band the Eurythmics ‘Here Comes The Rain Again’, Shannon’s ‘Give Me Tonight’, Kim Carnes’ ‘You Make My Heart Beat Faster’ and Barry Manilow’s ‘You’re Looking Hot Tonight’ were huge on gay dance floors and in gay club DJ mix sets.
